Demetrius Jefferson describes himself as “a 90s baby raised in the Carolinas”. He grew up in a humble, close-knit town that was rooted in family values. At a young age, he developed an affinity for the arts. Watching black and white movies with his mother as a youngster is what he attributes as his biggest influence in deciding to become an artist. The writers he measures himself against are F. Scott Fitzgerald, Langston Hughes, and Tennesse Williams. In 2015 following his high school graduation, Demetrius decided to pursue his love affair with writing instead of going directly to university. The eight years that followed have been a whirlwind for him. Though he still hears the beckoning call to fulfill a self-promise of completing a postgraduate law and politics program, finding success as a writer is his foremost desire. In 2017, Dreams was his debut work and he learned a lot about the process. He says, “Shades of Blue, my sophomore novel, was such a passion project because I found the ability to intertwine my love of storytelling with my interest in public policy.” Aside from writing, Demetrius is an avid consumer of American Football and Basketball, a proud pet parent, considers himself something of a Whiskey connoisseur, and is actively trying to find a way to curb his online shopping addiction. When asked to make predictions about his life, Demetrius said, “I intend to write award-winning books, Academy Award-winning films, Grammy Award-winning songs, and laws passed by The United States Congress. That will cement my legacy as the greatest writer of all time.”
